When did you start CrossFit?

Project Origin 1.0, August 2015

Why did you get into fitness and CrossFit?

I have been involved in sports and athletics my whole life.  High School sports included Cross Country, Wrestling, and Track (hurdles, high jump, and long jump).

After graduating college and transitioning from an active lifestyle to a desk, I started distance running to keep the weight off.  But my body did not respond well to the hours of physical stress needed to properly train for a marathon, and more than that, it wasn’t fun.  I started searching for other modes of fitness.  I dabbled with power lifting, but without any real instruction or programming, didn’t get very far.  Obstacle runs were fun, but the entry fees started racking up quickly, and still required boring running to stay in shape for them.

I had never done a group fitness class before, but when I saw the ads for the very first Project Origin at Hybrid Farm, it looked fun so I decided to try it.  That decision would change my life.  I had a great time with the new varying fitness routine, and met a whole bunch of cool new people!  The social aspect of fitness was what I hadn’t even realized I was missing until then.  At the end of my six week intro course, I committed myself 100% to CrossFit and haven’t looked back then!

Why did you become a coach?

Having tried and struggled with power lifting before coming to Hybrid Farm, the instruction and feedback that came from the coaches was a game changer.  I could feel myself moving with more efficiency than ever, and wanted to be a part of helping others achieve the same.  Becoming a coach allowed me to support a new business that I believed in, help others reach their fitness goals, expand my professional resume, and become a better athlete myself by learning the finer points of the movements and methodology.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Choosing a favorite is simply not possible.  Clean and Jerk, Box Jumps, Ring Muscle-Ups, Handstand Walking, Heavy Lunges… they all have a special place in my heart.  But I’ll tell you what is not my favorite.  Snatch.  The Snatch is definitely not my favorite.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

I do love a good pancake.  Or three.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at the gym?

When I’m not at the gym, I love being outside.  Floating the river in the summer, taking the side by side out in the spring and fall, and snowboarding in the winter.
