When did you start CrossFit?

Project Origin 1.0, August 2015

Why did you get into fitness and CrossFit?

I was not a fan of gym class or sports while I was growing up. I never felt like I was “good” at any of it.  I learned to enjoy being active in my adult life, attending various workout classes, biking, and walking. When I saw the ad on Facebook for Hybrid Farm, it intrigued me. At that time in my life, I was starting to see the undesirable effects of my age, and no matter how active I was, I was unhappy with how my body was changing and the decline in my fitness level. After completing the Project Origin program, I was hooked!  I loved the community aspect of the CrossFit gym.  The workouts constantly challenged me, but afterwards, I could feel proud of what I had done. I had never touched a barbell or the kind of weight that we were using in classes, but once I learned the various lifts and movements, the strength and muscle I was gaining motivated me to do more. I love the way my fitness and CrossFit translate to everyday life–it truly is FUNtional fitness!  It has given me the energy and strength to help with and play with my two granddaughters.  I love it when people tell me, “You don’t look old enough to be a grandma….”

Why did you become a coach?

I wanted to share my passion for fitness and for CrossFit with others. I love working with our newest members in our Boot Camp classes and teaching them about all the components of a healthy lifestyle–not just workouts, but nutrition, sleep, hydration, and stress management.  I hope that I have a lasting impact on the health and fitness of those that I coach.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Deadlifts–because they make me feel strong. Double-unders–because I can finally do them. Toes-to-bar – because it’s a fun movement. Rope climbs – because I think it’s pretty awesome for a 57-year-old grandma to be able to climb to the top of the rope!

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

Anything that includes chocolate or cream cheese.  Even better if it contains both of those ingredients!  And pizza.  And ice cream.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at the gym?

I love to spend time with my family, which includes my hubby, my daughters and son-in-law, my two granddaughters, and my dog, Rosie.  I still love spending time riding my bicycle when the weather is nice.  Speaking of nice weather–I love the beach!  We enjoy regular trips to Florida, and hope to live there someday!
